In his previous GPV science talks, Mitch Waldrop has explored the origin of the universe, the origin of the Earth and life, even the origin of birds and dinosaurs. Now join him to explore the origins of us.

That’s “Us” as in, Our species. The human race. Homo Sapiens. Everybody reading this, along with the 8 billion other people, give or take, who are currently crowding into just about every corner of our planet.

  • When, where and how did we come to be?

  • How did one band of stone-tool-using African migrants manage to populate Europe and Asia – more than a million years before Neanderthals or Homo sapiens even existed?

  • How did another band of African migrants then give rise to every human being alive today – Modern Africans, Europeans, Middle Easterners, East Asians, South Asians, Australian Aborigines, Pacific Islanders, Native Americans, everybody?

  • And, not incidentally, how did we end up as the only human species on this planet? Because once upon a time there were others...
